Phoenix Annual Winter Carnival

Our 2020 Winter Carnival was a HUGE success!  The weather cooperated this year and allowed the community to come together to support so many amazing events.  There really was something for everyone.  This year, organizers extended the carnival dates to include the weekend prior to the 5/6 & 7/8 Hockey Tournament. This allowed us to include a special Manitoba 150 Community Photo opportunity, a family skating dance party, an open ringette game, and 2 ladies teams joined the ever popular 30+ Hockey Night in Headingley Games & Social.  Pickleball held its first open house and picked up some new members.

This year we had a whopping 21 teams register for the 5/6 & 7/8 tournament.  253 kids played hockey over 6 days!  The Phoenix Flames teams played their hearts out.  The 7/8 team came into a 3 way tie, taking 3rd place overall.

Many braved the chilly weather for the Family Fun Night on Friday and enjoyed a free BBQ and an amazing fireworks show.  Kids and adults alike could be found warming up in the hall with a hot chocolate, buying their tickets for the amazing selection of silent auction prizes.  The kitchen was open in the Phoenix Community Centre for 3 days, serving more meals than ever.  On Saturday morning, our firefighters served a delicious pancake breakfast to over 325 people.

This event would not be possible without the donations/sponsorships from local businesses, thank you for supporting our families and our community!  Thank you to the Carnival Committee and all of our volunteers.  Your Carnival Committee puts in countless hours to make the  9 day event go off without a hitch.  This crew is just amazing!  On top of all they did to bring the carnival to life, we needed 148 community volunteers to help with kitchen & canteen shifts, BBQing, set up, tear down, clean up, 50/50 & raffle ticket sales. Parents, grandparents, seniors, our RM of Headingley Councillors and the carnival committee pulled together and made it all happen.  Lastly, thank you to our community.  Headingley, you have a huge heart and we are grateful for your ongoing support.  Thank you to everyone who participated in our many events, cheered on our players, supported the fundraising efforts of our organization, and took the time to come out and be an active part of our community.

We are always looking for volunteers to help organize and run this community event!
