Phoenix Winter Carnival

STAY IN THE KNOW!

PHOENIX WINTER CARNIVAL 2024

February 5th – 11th

The annual Phoenix Winter Carnival is a very special week long celebration.  We invite everyone in the community to come by Phoenix Community Centre at 153 Seekings Street to meet your neighbors and take in the community spirit!

Join us Friday Night for everyone’s highlight of the week: a FREE Family BBQ and amazing FIREWORKS show!  Dress warmly for playing outside on the Toboggan Run, chatting with friends and neighbors, cheering on our Phoenix Flames Hockey Teams, and warm up inside the Hutch or the Community Centre with drinks and food.

Over the course of the week we host the U7 & U9 Hockey Tournament.

We also host a Canteen in the Hutch, a Kitchen serving everyone’s favorites in the Community Centre, 50/50 Raffle, silent Auction with AMAZING prizes, Fireman’s Pancake Breakfast, Ringette Showcase, Skills Competition, Kids Crafts, etc!

There’s something for everyone!

A HUGE thanks in advance to all of the amazing volunteers in our community who make this all come together.  Your efforts do not go unnoticed.  It really does take a village to pull this off.

Phoenix Winter Carnival – Hockey Tournament Rules – U9 (Timbits) Division

• Vacate the dressing room no more than 10 minutes after your game ends. Ensure players arrive at the rink mostly dressed, dressing room change over times will be tight.
• All Winnipeg Minor Hockey Rules will apply, including pick up rules.
• The APHA call up rule will apply. If a team has less that 12 players, they either call a player up or play short in the shifts with less than 4 players.
• All games will be 2 X 22-minute periods with 2-minute running time shifts
• Teams may decide to take a 5-minute break at the half
• Teams will play A, B and C lines – based on skill level. • Games will be played at 2/3 ice (net on the far blue line). Except for those timeslots where 2 games are on the same sheet.
• The Home Team is indicated on the schedule and must supply an adult score and timekeeper for those games.
• Scores will be posted on the board in the Hockey Hutch at 153 Seekings Street and online – https://phoenixrec.org/winter-carnival/
• During the Round Robin and Sunday placement, games may end in ties. In the semi-final and final games, overtime will be played (2X 6-minute sudden victory periods). If the game remains tied, there will be a 3-player shoot out (1 player may only take 1 attempt). If the score remains tied, there will be a 1 shot continuous shoot out until a winner is declared. Note: no player may be used twice in a shoot out until the entire roster has been used once.
• There are 3 pools, each pool consists of 4 teams. Following the Round Robin, the top team from each pool advances to Sunday’s semi-final. A fourth team, determined by record first, then goals for and against, will also make the semi-final. The remaining teams will be ranked by goals for and against and placed accordingly into Sunday’s placement games. Teams will be notified of placements on Saturday evening, once all Round Robin games are complete.
• In the event of a tie in points after the round robin, placement will be based primarily on the head-to-head match up between the 2 (or 3) tied teams. Secondly, the placement will be based on goal differential in all games played (goals for minus goals against) and the team with the higher number wins. Note: we will cap goal differential at 7 goals for each game)
• Player of the game awards will be made following each game, coaches are asked to pick the player for their own team and line up their team on the blue line.
• There is a skills competition on Saturday at 1PM. Teams are to submit 2 players to the event (fastest skater/accurate shot/relay race)
• Weather: Cancellations due to weather will be as per the WMHA guidelines. Temperatures of -28 Celsius (or lower) with the windchill or -25 Celsius base temperature will result in game cancellations. In the event of cancellations, we will do our best to re-schedule games later in the week.
